Celebrity Cruise Lines  History

Celebrity Cruises, a premium cruise line, establish ih 1989 by Greece-based Chandris Group has one of the youngest and most innovative fleet of any major line. Since Celebrity's first sailing in 1990, it has been recognized as an industry leader, praised for providing friendly and engaging service, exotic Elemis Spa facilities, award-winning gourmet cuisine, and an overall atmosphere of easy elegance. Celebrity's Zenith was first ship joined the company in its earliest incarnation (the "vintage" ship left the fleet in 2007). Along with the launch of the Century-class fleet in 1995, Celebrity created another industry first: a luxurious spa experience within the environment of a cruise ship, with the introduction of the AquaSpa® by Elemis. In 1997, Celebrity Cruises merged with Royal Caribbean International, bringing together two extraordinary cruise brands within one corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. The company today has a combined total of 29 ships in service and one under construction. In the year 2000, Celebrity launched new generation of ships are Millennium, Infinity, Summit and Constellation each host 1950 guests. Each is a ship of incomparable beauty featuring sumptuous amenities, impeccable service and comfortable accommodations. Royal Celebrity Tours was introduced in 2001, building on the strengths of both the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises brands, to offer truly unique vacations in Alaska, Canada and Europe, pairing outstanding cruise experiences with incredible pre- or post-cruise land tour packages now known as "cruisetours." In 2004, the line launched "Celebrity Xpeditions," a series of highly unique events and excursions designed to offer savvy travelers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to be treated famously in new environments. The one-of-a-kind program gives guests the premium experiences they have come to expect from Celebrity, in new and exotic settings, including cruises in the enchanting Galapagos Islands on a luxurious megayacht, Celebrity Xpedition, and a series of premium excursion options on select itineraries. A new class of vessels known as the Solstice Class will be emerging beginning in the Fall of 2008. Three vessels are already on order to be delivered approximately one year apart. The sister ships; number one to be named Celebrity Solstice, number two; Celebrity Equinox, and number three; Celebrity Eclipse, will be 118,000 gross tons and will carry 2850 guests. They will be 1033 feet long and 121 feet wide. Their added size will allow Celebrity to offer larger standard staterooms, a higher percentage of balconies and an exceptional range of guest-inspired services and amenities.
